King reporting in from his comfy bed (too tired from guard duty)

Mom got me this new bed so I am trying it out for the next few hours...ZZZZzz...

King Reporting in from his new life.

Hello from Maryland! It be me The King. Yep, that's my name and it is appropriate to my bearing, size, and social status here at my new home. I wanted to say thanks to Westie Rescue for responding to an email asking if Westie Rescue would take two Westies from a backyard breeding farm in SE Virginia. The quick answer was YES! I was glad to hear the news that I was going to a totally different life as a "house dog". I knew that living in the house was a good thing as I saw firsthand as "my girls" went there when their time was at hand. You see I was the stud at this farm and we were all getting older.

Uncle Stephen came early one summer morning to see us and drive us all the way to Annapolis Maryland. Heck, I hadn't even had a car ride before, so Chrystal and I, being the only Westies here, got a chance of a life time to escape the dog area at the farm. The Vets and staff at Greater Annapolis Vet Hospital are well experienced handling Westies, so we were in good hands. Uncle Stephen told me that this particular Vet Hospital has helped over 1,200 Westies get the care they need to get ready for a new life for going on 33 years. We got a complete work up, shots updated, neutering (that part was not helpful), and a few blood tests to make sure we were OK under the skin. Speaking of skin, I got two baths to get the "farm smell" off my coat and a nail trim. Both Crystal and I never looked so good.

All that care worked on me, as my mom came and took one look and said I needed her and she needed me. Well, that was true, I needed a best buddy. She drove me to my new home and showed me my own bed and what my new life was going to be. I was one happy tail wager I can tell you. One on one attention. Food and water at the ready every day. AC ducts that blow COLD air. Man did I get used to that quickly. Where was that before?

My new home. I have a big Yellow Lab to hang out with. We snooze together. Take walks together and patrol the yard keeping everyone safe. My mom wrote to Uncle Stephen that I am the best support dog in the world after tripping mom one day.

"I brought Belle, my lab, and King in from the backyard. I had been cooking some noodles for myself, so I carried the noodles over to the table and as I turned around, I didn't see King, and I fell flat out on the kitchen floor. King turned into the most protective service support dog I have ever seen in my life. He checked me out. He smelled me. He sat with me. He licked me. He snuggled until I got up. Here is a dog that was an outside dog and for him to do that was the most amazing experience I have ever had with any of my dogs. I burst out crying thinking it was Danny, my previous Westie who is long gone. I'll never forget this one. He honestly went into work mode. Just bragging. He is my little hero. He has saved my soul." – My mom, Sharon.

I love my mom....Well, that's all the news from my home. I hope every Westie who needs a helping hand finds their way to the Westie Rescue program as you guys and gals are a dog's best hope for that second chance at a new life. I told my mom to remember Westie Rescue this Christmas so keep a look out for our card as it has a check in it! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Your big buddy - King, Rescued and now home for life.

PS. I wrote Santa to say we needed more stuffed toys as we have this large snoozing crate and there is room left for a lot more of them. Did I mention that there is no door on this crate? I love my new life!
