Miss Mills - Our 1,400th Westie Saved

Every milestone should be celebrated and every win should be shouted from the roof tops.

Westie Rescue MidAtlantic Region reached a milestone this year when we rescued, rehabilitated, and then rehomed our 1,400th Westie. Meet Miss Mills our 3 year old princess and milestone girl.

Miss Mills got her name as she was from an Ohio puppy breeding farm. She was turned over to Westie Rescue as she had "troubles with a litter". She had a heart mummer so large that when she was examined by our Vets in Annapolis (www.GAVH.com), the they were alarmed. So, zip she went around the corner to the Vet Cardio Specialists at CVCA, Dr Rick Cober, took charge and after lots of testing and evaluation, recommended a Balloon Valvuloplasty!

Very scary, especially for this little girl....

This procedure and the necessary pre-operation testing was going to be very expensive. Our program helps every Westie get the care they need to be ready for a new life. If the pain can be stopped, medical issues can be identified, and a treatment program can be outlined with a good outcome. With that information, Westie Rescue moves forward while raising the funds necessary to pay the bills.

In this little one's case, her bills would exceed $7,000.00. The choice on Miss Mills was a simple A or B. If nothing is done, the risk was she will not make it past her 4th birthday as her heart will fail. If we do the surgery, she will have an excellent chance at a full recovery and a normal life span. The quick right decision was made to move forward with the surgery.

On October 10th Miss Mills was driven all the way up to the Hunt Valley CVCA Cardiac Care Center to meet Dr. Cober's wonderful surgical team, and to begin the operation procedure. Many hours later the call came in that her heart valve operation was successful and she will be coming back home in 24 hrs.

After a few days of recovery with Uncle Stephen, she was driven her down to Williamsburg to meet her new mom once again, as she spent a few days prior to surgery with them getting comfortable to her new and now permanent home.

Miss Mills reports she loves her new mom and life and wants to tell everyone, "Have a Happy New Year" as her life is so bright she has taken to wearing shades.

Thanks to everyone involved in helping this little one get that second chance at a new life.
