Westie Rescue Update from the home front – Duncan Reporting, December 4, 2022

Duncan who was adopted this year, is having his 15th Birthday!
He said he wanted a steak, so he is having a B-day party to celebrate his special day.

Duncan reporting in from the home front as today is his 15th Birthday.

Today is my birthday so I asked for STEAK. My birthday demand (I demand, others ask) was granted and I am having filet tonight! I have invited a few guests as they share my home. What's a birthday without a party? I am thankful that they are all slow eaters so I always get more.

Duncan is turning 15 years old!
The party invites, Left to Right: Me, brother Oliver, and sister Abby, all rescues like me!

After dinner we had a movie night. I had dad turn on the closed captions so I could read along.

Background: Duncan was a "repeat customer" as Westie Rescue placed him when he was just 2 years old. Fast forward 12 years now Duncan has out lived his humans once again and needed Westie Rescue's help getting ready for and finding a new home. A quick health check, a few shots updated, grooming, nailed trimmed, a flea bath, and a regular schedule for potty breaks and he was good to go!

Duncan is a happy and friendly guy who was seeking what everyone needs in the twilight years, a quiet home, soft bedding, good food, an easy schedule, and a daily gentle pet on the head, maybe a good long walk, and a few really slow squirrels to chase just to show them there is a new boss in town.

Duncan says, "It was great to go on a trial stay and end up a "Keeper" as they really do have great treats and they are easy on us geezers. It is like summer camp (. We get up early for a quick walk around the yard and then there is a meal. Followed by a snooze. Next thing you know, it is walk time, snack time, snooze time, walk time, Dinner time, snooze time, walk time, snack time, and then lights out. Kind of like a rinse and repeat schedule every 3-4 hrs I think, because I slept a lot in between the walking and snacking.

I get in l lots of yard walks ("Summer/Winter Marches"). I like the walks but the temps need to warm up a bit. I love snow and like to roll around in it. Thanks goodness my fur is cut short so with one quick shake I am clean. I get to choose which one of the beds fits my large butt just right because when you are a big Westie, you need a LARGE bed.

I am grateful for Westie Rescue once again helping my big grumpy butt find my dad and my new bed to snooze on. I needed a yard to have new smells and adventures like chasing squirrels. I really hate those tree rats. They are so fast and good tree climbers. I call these chases "My Cardio Workout" routine. If you ever come to Berryville, Virginia, look me up or see me on the streets with my Westie sister and brother as I needed to lose a few pounds!"

A Westie's life is never really over, it just changes over time….

Duncan 12/2022

Westie Rescue says: There is a home for every Westie that needs our help, as somewhere there is an empty bed and an empty home needing a special Westie to come claim it. Congratulations Duncan, and don't forget the Rules for Adopted Westies!

  1. Suck up to humans, that way they will not return your butt.
  2. Don't screw up a good thing
  3. See and follow rules 1 and 2 for a successful adoption

Another success story of a senior Westie seeking a second or in Duncan's case, a forth chance at a great new long life.
Daytime is snoozing time ZZzzz….
I have been a licking my paws once again……

HI WESTIE LOVERS!,
We missed the parade. So SAD! We thought this year would be our year.
Our Westie, Clyde, I am sure would have had a ball but Mom was not well and we’re grateful for the pictures.
He needs to go with me every where. He goes to all the stores and everyone knows him. He loves the attention. He’s just a little SHOWBOAT!

Clyde is our CHILD! He is Our Darling baby even though he’s going to be 9 yrs old. Sleeps next to Mom every night, and tells her when to go to bed! He’s a very big talker. He’s the love of our Life! We say “Thank You WESTIE RESCUE” as we love him and your group’s efforts!

Next year we will come to the parade for sure.

Duncan says, “Thanks for all the kind comments. I have been working on being less grumpy as my roommates have been really tolerate and don’t bug me when I am missing in action. That is what I call my trips to the bed room for a really deep snooze. Those soft pillows just call my name. They are so fluffy and help with the ZZZzzzzz….. I can hardly keep my eyes open just thinking about those pillows. If anyone wants me, I will be in the bed in 30 seconds.”

I am looking for westie that needs to be surrendered or rescued. I had one and loved him with all m heart. I know all their problem behaviors but loved him anyway. He passed away after 10 years old.
Duncan you are one good looking Westie!
