News From The Home Front - Cody Checking In

Mr Cody would like to let everyone know that he is happy and loving life in his new home.

Mr Cody who was came into our program as a "Problem Child" as no one could touch him without loosing a hand or finger. Turned into a suck up who loved men and was a gentle fuzzball after a few days of great care and slow intros.

Having been a potential stud dog that was abused by his female kennel keeper, Cody decided that women are the enemy. Guys are GREAT! Good choice on his part but made for finding just the right home hard.

He quickly showed he wants one adult male owner, no females allowed in his house around "His Dad". Outside OK, just not in my domain. He demonstrated this fact by racing across the room to nip my tolerant wife on the hip after she came into the room and picked up an item he was playing with a few minutes before. Needless to say, she quickly moved him into the "Not staying here" category. I however found Cody to a great little buddy who responded to voice commands and would run across the room to jump up in your lap for a tummy pet.

Westie Rescue moved Cody to another foster home to see how he would react to having additional Westies in his home. Off he went to Berryville, VA to hang out with three other Westies at Uncle Lucian's house. There he continued to being a suck up sleeping on a new lap while upside down getting a tummy pet. He wanted to be close and almost wormed his way into being a permanent member of the house hold much to the dismay of other four legged boys who wanted to be number one suck ups.

After a few weeks of adventures, including taking an unsupervised stroll off the property to inspect the neighborhood. "Hey, I saw something so went to inspect", Cody was ready for a new home.

While Westie Rescue searched, Cody sent Labor Day weekend at the Virginia Scottish Games showing off by sleeping in Lucian's arms and then he would trot over and jump up in my arms upside down like a big baby. For two days he snoozed the day away while hundreds of attendees came to say hello to our information tent.

Even though the search was long, Westie Rescue found a single guy who was searching for a new buddy. After a few hours in his new home, Cody stated that this is a good selection as he had a fenced yard to guard and a four legged Westie buddy to play and chase in the yard.

Best part: Dad's love and attention.

Mr Cody a best buddy in the making.

After a few weeks of building trust. Having never seen anything outside of a kennel, Cody learned quickly as everything was so scary.

Don't you know that sleeping upside down feeds your brain?

A full tummy, a good slurp of water, then a long snooze with a favorite toy until dinner time.

Cafe' Guest - Table location: Patio

As his trust grew, Cody took his walks, sitting on the front porch watching the neighborhood activities, and adventures like a pro. When he encountered something new, he would look at me to see if it was safe or danger. A simple spoken phrase of "Its OK" and he would relax and trot along.

He soon was walking through crowds and even sitting on my lap at an outside café in oldtown Alexandria VA.
