Ms Skyler has passed on…..
Received a sad update this week as one of our seniors we placed in 2021, has died even after worming her way into her adopted home owner's life and hearts. She had become a "Best Buddy" helping in the shop with Corvette repairs, hanging out with the boys and getting head scratches and shoulder rubs. Ms Skyler previously reported in earlier that this home was the right fit for a grumpy old female.
Skyler (AKA "The Nibbler") came into our program as "Little Ms Annie" when her owner moved into assisted living and could not take her. Skyler wanted to new life with a new great owner. She was granted both when she was adopted and became "Ms Skyler". She was happy and would like to sit on a chair or couch with you and she would follow you everywhere!
Given a choice, this little girl wanted a stay at home/retired humans, but a home-based working mom/dad was ok too. She got both with Westie Rescue's help.
She always wanted attention but on her terms. Rule 1 NEVER try to clean her eyes as that is way too close to the muzzle. Rule 2 Never touch her when she is asleep. Clap your hands to get her attention as she learned to wake up and be ready to defend herself for some unknown reason. She will however, run across the room to jump up on your lap to get a neck scratch and a back rub before settling in next to you so you can continue her body scratching.
Ms Skyler reported from her home prior to passing: "I needed a really soft bed to snooze in and someone to care for me. I love slow walks and exploring the outdoors. I like sitting on a front porch watching everyone come and go. This way I get to bark at the big dogs. I am a very good-looking Westie with GREAT fur and a pretty face. I like a good neck and cheek scratch on a chair. I walk well on a lead; I like to meet other dogs and I like people. I am VERY attentive. I like to play with humans and my toys for 20 mins then sleep for 2 hrs. I come when called…well not so much, I sit on command, and I am house trained. I told my humans that I sleep soundly so they need to clap their hands to wake me.
I am a great socializer and project coordinator on Corvette projects as I have keen eye sight and good memory where the bolts should go. I like hanging out with the guys as they need adult supervision at times." – Skyler (aka "the Nibbler")
Like all Westies who are loved, she leaves behind a great hole in the fabric of life in her home. She was so well loved, she moved to Florida to stay with Grandma and Granddad. There she fell in love with grand Dad. They were best buds, hanging out together in the shop, road trips, and even going out to lunch with the guys.
Her mom said it best, Skyler has come a long way from the "Nipper" to become a great little girl who loved her Grandpaw and her new life in Florida. She is now healthy once again, playing among the clouds, chasing rodents and taking those deep naps.
God Speed, Skyler!
