Keep your Westies and pets safe from all the noise.

To keep pets safe, Westie Rescue USA recommends that they be kept indoors, as much as possible, July 3 to 5.

Because of fireworks, over 50,000 American pets go missing over those 3 days EACH year.

In fear of loud explosive sounds, animals will flee fenced yards, jerk leashes out of their people's hands, and run out of any open door in their home.

Please be alert to the fact that some people start early on July 3rd as well as party on July 5th.

July 4th Weekend Suggestions —
▪️ Keep pets indoors.
▪️Stay with your pet during fireworks.
▪️Create a safe space
▪️Provide a quiet, comfortable area where your pet can retreat (hide), including a crate (with a towel over it), a room, or even space under furniture.
▪️Mask the loud sounds of fireworks by having white noise, music, or TV on.
▪️Make sure your pets have ID tags.
▪️ Check leash and collar/harness connections to ensure they will not easily pull apart.
▪️Keep an especially tight grip on leashes when you go for walkies!
▪️Provide distractions
▪️Distract them by playing games and using reward treats.
▪️Offer puzzle toys, chew toys, or frozen treats to keep them occupied.
▪️Keep potentially harmful items like citronella candles, sparklers, charcoal, and foil with food drippings out of reach.
▪️Never leave pets unattended in vehicles (panicked pets could injure themselves
trying to get out or damage the interior).
▪️Very fearful pets
▪️Consider using a ThunderShirt or consulting a vet about calming aids.
None of us want the sadness and heartfelt pain of a lost pet.

❤️STAY SAFE THIS WEEK❤️
